COVID-19 Information

by Be Well Family Care | March 15, 2020

At Be Well Family Care we believe in Functional Medicine. Functional Medicine is a “roots-up” approach to wellness focusing on optimizing health. We do this by treating vitamin and nutrient deficiencies, reducing toxic burden, balancing hormones, reducing inflammation, and managing stress (among others). By doing these things, we support a strong and healthy immune system. A strong immune system is our best defense against all illnesses – including Covid-19 (Coronavirus).

Below you will find our suggestions for continuing to support a healthy immune system, as well as measures we all can take to reduce the spread of illness and protect our friends, family and community during this pandemic. There’s a lot of information coming out every day. We want you to continue to stay calm and collected, review the information out there with a keen and mindful eye, and remember not to panic.

As always, please follow the directions of the CDC and local government agencies like the Indiana State Department of Health and your city government.

TELEMEDICINE VISITS/TESTING

Be Well now offers Telemedicine Visits. If you have symptoms or are concerned that you may have Covid-19, please contact the office to schedule a Telemedicine visit with your provider to discuss more. We are not currently offering testing for Covid-19 infection at our office. EAT WELL, SLEEP WELL, MOVE WELL, and POOP WELL:

Eat Well – Try to get ½ your plate in veggies and aim for 5-6 servings per day. Eat lots of “colors” as these are the phytonutrients your body needs to stay healthy!  Avoid sugars, and needless refined starches and grains!

Sleep Well– Adults need 8 uninterrupted hours every night and kids need 10-12 hours every night!

Move Well – Try to exercise every day as your provider recommends!

FOUNDATIONAL SUPPLEMENTS:
We have had so many people ask about supplemental health. We strongly recommend everyone take immune modulating supplements as their provider directs.  These supplements help make the immune system smarter!  Below are some guidelines:

BE SMART!  We suggest everyone make some simple daily changes:

Wash your hands often:  Hand washing with soap and warm water is the best way to reduce germs. Use hand sanitizer only if this is not available!

Cover your mouth and nose:  Cough into your elbow; fist bump instead of high fives; Try not to touch your face or eyes.

Keep surfaces clean: Try to use non toxic cleaners and keep most heavily used surfaces clean. Remember door knobs, phones, computer keyboards, remotes, and other surfaces that are frequently touched in rooms such as the bathroom and kitchen.

Keep your risk low:  If you are someone with a compromised immune system, use caution and avoid people who are really sick. In the like, if you are sick, avoid the elderly or other people whose immune systems are compromised.

SOCIAL DISTANCING: The CDC is encouraging everyone to use Social Distancing to slow the spread of Covid-19.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE A FEVER, COUGH, OR FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS:

  • WHEN TO SEEK EMERGENT MEDICAL ATTENTION: If you are experiencing difficulty breathing, lethargy, or severe dehydration, go to the Emergency Room. Call ahead to let the ER know that you are coming.
  • WHEN TO CALL/MESSAGE THE OFFICE: If you are mildly sick, but are doing well, please stay home and keep us posted via portal or phone. As always, take good care of yourself.
  • TESTING: You can find testing locations at the Health Department website here

STRESS, ANXIETY AND FOUNDATIONAL CARE : Stress and stress management are a big part of overcoming this crisis. Make sure to remember to breath, meditate, journal, pray, exercise, etc to get grounded again if you are feeling overwhelmed.  The reason we do Functional Medicine is to be as resilient as possible to anything the world throws our way.  If you are feeling overwhelmed and need supplemental help please portal or call us.
